CHAPTER 3.30 - DISPOSITION OF UNCLAIMED PROPERTY

3.30.010 - Disposition of unclaimed property.

(a) Any unclaimed property not governed by statute, after being held 90 days from the date the owner was notified by letter to claim the property, may be sold at public auction by the director of public safety, or his designee, provided that notice of such sale shall be given by the director at least five days prior to the date of sale in the newspaper.

(b) Unclaimed property that is needed for public use, need not be sold and if the unclaimed property is of the type that would not normally be sold at auction, it shall be destroyed.

(c) Pursuant to Welfare and Institutions Code Section 217, toys or bicycles which have been unclaimed for at least 60 days, instead of being sold at public auction, may be turned over to those organizations as provided for in Welfare and Institutions Code Section 217.
