  • Fence and post every 50 feet

    The site or area used as a shooting range shall be fenced, posted every 50 feet or otherwise restricted so that access to the site is controlled to insure the safety of patrons, spectators and the public at large.

  • Sheriff review and approval

    The Sherriff of Surry County shall review and approve the design and layout of any shooting range or match as to its safety to patrons of the range as well as surrounding property owners.

Setback

  • No firing point within 100 feet of adjoining property line100 ft

    No firing point shall be located within 100 feet of an adjoining property line.

  • Minimum distance from firing point to property line300 ft

    The minimum distance from any firing point measured in the direction of fire to the nearest property line shall not be less than 300 feet.

  • Minimum distance with backstop200 ft

    Where a backstop is utilized to absorb the discharged load, the minimum distance may be 200 feet.

The site or area used as a shooting range shall be fenced, posted every 50 feet or otherwise restricted so that access to the site is controlled to insure the safety of patrons, spectators and the public at large. The Sherriff of Surry County shall review and approve the design and layout of any shooting range or match as to its safety to patrons of the range as well as surrounding property owners. As a general guideline, the following distances shall be maintained unless modified in writing by the county sheriff: a. The minimum distance from any firing point measured in the direction of fire to the nearest property line shall not be less than 300 feet; b. Where a backstop is utilized to absorb the discharged load, the minimum distance may be 200 feet; and, c. No firing point shall be located within 100 feet of an adjoining property line.
