Standards

“The approximate limit of the 100-year floodplain, any drainage district, mapped dam break inundation zone.”

The principal means of access shall be designed and constructed so as to provide unobstructed access at the time of flooding; and/or An alternative means of access which is not subject to inundation... shall be constructed.”

“No structure or improvement shall be located within a flood plain, except as provided in section 4.2.5.”

“Within any floodway area, no encroachments, including fill, new construction, substantial improvements, or other development shall be permitted unless it has been demonstrated through hydrologic and hydraulic analysis performed in accordance with standard engineering practice that the proposed encroachment will not result in any increase in flood levels within the community during the occurrence of the base flood discharge.”

“When such base flood elevation data is utilized, the lowest floor shall be elevated to or above the base flood level plus 1-foot.”

“New construction and substantial improvements shall be built according to this ordinance and the VA USBC, and anchored to prevent flotation, collapse, or lateral movement of the structure.”
